Frequently Asked Questions

How can I join the book club?

There are two types of memberships you can choose from:

1) General Community Member: Join the weekly book club free of charge.

2) All-Access Member: Gain access to all member-only activities, including online speaker sessions and in-person gatherings. We host at least two events covering a variety of relevant topics each quarter. The fee for this membership is $60 per year.

To join, please submit a request on the Contact Us page, or email us at spbc.seattle@gmail.com.

Where can I find event updates or the book club reading plan?

Currently, we communicate all event updates and book reading information primarily in our WeChat groups. Brief updates can also be found on the Events and Book Club pages. We plan to expand communication channels in the future to meet the needs of different community members.

How does the book club work?

Participants are divided into groups based on the total number of sign-ups for a given book. Each group meets virtually via Zoom at the same time every week, except for Thanksgiving week. Members are expected to read a designated portion of the book before each meeting. We have a set of rules to encourage active and consistent participation from all members.

What are the membership fees used for?

Currently, all membership fees are used to organize offline activities, cover operational expenses such as venue fees and consumables, and invite guest speakers for lectures.

Is there a way to waive the membership fees?

To encourage consistent participation in our book club, we will gladly offer the following year’s membership free of charge to those who attend all the book club meetings throughout a given year.
